Worldwide BSOD issue from Crowdstrike update

(We may be a little bit late in reporting this…)

It has been reported that the latest update to Crowdstrike’s Falcon Sensor software is causing Windows host to experience the infamous BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error.

Apparently, the issue is so severe that in Australia, all the banks are currently down so people cannot process payment, either with cards or cash (as seen in the Reddit thread below).

If you happens to use a corporate Windows laptop/PC, have you experience similar issues? Let us know below

Seems like Laptops and PCs are not the only things affected  (no but seriously not being able to withdraw money can be devastating if you are in an emergency)

Crowdstrike has released the RCA of the BSOD issue. Detailed RCA pdf is here → https://www.crowdstrike.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Channel-File-291-Incident-Root-Cause-Analysis-08.06.2024.pdf

According to the report, the IPC (Interprocess Communication) Template Type was designed to expect 21 input fields, but the sensor code only supplied 20. This discrepancy went undetected during the development and testing phases, partly due to the use of wildcard matching criteria in the 21st field during initial deployments.
